Senet Cup, Eindhoven, Holland, 1-4th February 2018.
Team Scotland came away with a plethora of 11 medals following the Senet Cup event in Eindhoven this past weekend. The team's participation was part of the continued implementation of Scottish Swimming's Diving Performance Plan, and the positive results are a sign of the healthy growth in talent within Scottish diving.
Lucas and James started off on Thursday afternoon with a GOLD in the Men's Synchro 10m Platform event, followed by Kade winning GOLD in the Boys Group C platform event. On Friday, Lewis stormed the Boys Group C 3m Springboard event winning a fabulous SILVER medal with Kade winning BRONZE in the same event. Danny followed with a BRONZE in the Boys B Platform event and Lucas and Gemma won GOLD in the mixed synchro event! SUPER Saturday brought another succession of medals with Danny winning a super SILVER in his Boys B 3m Springboard event, Gemma winning a fantastic GOLD in her 10m Individual Platform event and Lucas winning a brilliant SILVER in his 10m Individual Platform event. Sunday followed with Danny and Mhairi winning SILVER in their mixed synchro 3m springboard event and James winning an exciting SILVER in his 1m Mens Individual Springboard event. Ellen and Libby had a hugely successful competition in all of their events in their first multi-national competition. Great experience for both of them and for Cameron Gammage who came across from Southampton to compete for Scotland and had a brilliant competition in all of his events.
Team Scotland were also runners up in the Team event just behind Team Finland. A massive thank you to Scottish Swimming, Mary Sless - Team Manager and coaches Jen and Judy for their masterful coaching and organisation!
The team and coaches also took part in the Guinness World Record Book Challenge of the most Cannonball Dives at the same time. It was officially recorded that on Sunday February 4th at 12.30 hours that 281 people stood at the edge of the 50 meter pool in the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium. After the countdown done by presentator Johan Vlemmix (a local celebrity) they all jumped into the pool together! A new world record was set. The old world record was set at 232 people and was achieved in 2013 in New Zealand. In the coming weeks the organisation of the Guinness Book of Records will judge the material sent in by the Senet Diving Cup and they will let us know if the world record was officially broken!

They've done it... Diving TEAM SCOTLAND Gold Coast 2018!
Many, many congratulations to James Heatly whose exceptional performance won him BRONZE in the 1m springboard event at the Commonwealth Games. This was a very emotional moment for James as he accepted the medal and dedicated it to his late grandfather, Sir Peter Heatly, who won the last Scottish medal at the Commonwealth Games 60 years ago. Previous member of the Club Grace Reid went on to win a GOLD medal and achieved a personal best score in her 1m springboard event. Her performance was utterly breathtaking. Grace's name will also go down in history as being the first ever women in Scottish diving to win a medal at a Commonwealth Games! What a night it was and to hear the Flower of Scotland being sung at the Optus Aquatic Centre was incredible. Gemma McArthur had a brilliant competition in her 10m Platform event making it through to the final and performing some exceptional dives during a very windy and gusty evening. Lucas Thomson and James performed well in their 10m platform synchro final coming 5th in this event. Lucas had a succesful competition in the 1m springboard event coming 12th in the final and then went on to compete in the 10m individual platform and performed exceptionally well exceeding all expectations coming 5th overall in the final. Well done to you all, we are so proud of you!
