Edinburgh Diving Club

Founded in 1971

Edinburgh Leisure

Some confusion surrounds the roles of Edinburgh Leisure and Edinburgh Diving Club. In short, Edinburgh Leisure is a professional body in charge of everyday training. Edinburgh Diving Club is a volunteer body in charge of all things to do with competitions.

As a professional sports programme the Edinburgh Leisure Diving Programme cannot register itself as a club with the governing body (SASA). Therefore there needs to be a separate club: The Edinburgh Diving Club.

The club exists to

  • Provide a forum for competition
  • A structure for competitive diving
  • Provide and manage the avenues down which divers of a suitable level can go to compete

It is totally separate from the Edinburgh Leisure programme and run by volunteers. Some of the Edinburgh Leisure diving personnel may also be involved with the club but this is in a voluntary capacity and is a different role from their job.
