You must have had the missing letter blues! You know the sort of thing - the little darlings tell you they are going to an event but you have not had any information. Well, they were all given letters to hand to their parents .. but they left them on the poolside, in the changing room or, if you are very brave, you may retrieve a mouldy lump of papier mache from the foot of their bag!

The Club, in common with all clubs affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association (SASA), has a written Child Protection Policy and has appointed a Child Protection Officer to ensure that the welfare of Club members is the first consideration at all times.
A copy of this document is included in a Welcome Pack issued to each new member on joining the Club. When your child joins, make sure both you and your child read all the contents of this Pack.
The Club has a written Code of Conduct which is also included in the Welcome Pack. This Code outlines each member's responsibilities for such things as behaviour and personal conduct, personal appearance, financial liabilities, use of alcohol and tobacco products, sexual intimacy, drugs, medications, health and fitness. The Code applies during training and at all events where the Club is represented.
The Club encourages parents or guardians to take an active interest in their childrens' progress and in the Club's activities. There are many occasions each year when helpers are most welcome. At present there are several parents serving on the Committee and others who fill a reqular 'slot' at events and functions. Other things parents can do are mentioned in the Welcome Pack.
However, there are some situations when we would ask parents or guardians not to interrupt proceedings unless in an overriding emergency.
Please accept our assurance that during lessons and training the coaches do their best to be fair to all the divers. However, divers do not all progress at the same pace. There will be difficult times for each diver in response to which the coach has to devote extra time and attention to help them over some hurdle. This will inevitably result in other divers receiving a little less attention at that time. In the longer term, however, these imbalances even out. So if you think your child is being 'ignored' at any time, please try to take 'the longer view'. You are at liberty to contact the coach (outside lessons/sessions) to seek reassurance and if that is not forthcoming you may then approach the Head Coach.
Suppose you think your child is being marked down by the judges (or by one judge!) in a competition? Well, it wouldn't be the first time such a charge was made. Firstly we assure you that our judges do try to be fair. However they can make mistakes - even if they don't look human! Given that judging is a subjective activity several safeguards have been built into the judging process:
If you are still concerned about the judging of your child you should seek an opportunity to speak to their coach who will probably be able to explain why points are being deducted.
For those interested in helping, there is the Recording table to be staffed by people who can add-up. When recording you can often hear comments by the officials which shed more light on the awards for particular dives. However, you may miss some of the dives while you are busy completing the divesheets.
